  • Title: Bridging the Gap Award | Special Olympics Newfoundland and Labrador
Descriptive info: Congratulations to Volunteer Mary Holloway.. Every year Recreation Newfoundland and Labrador hosts their Annual Provincial Awards.. aspx?ProgramId=20.. People from across Newfoundland and Labrador can nominate individuals and/or organizations that they believe should be recognized on a Provincial Level.. This year Special Olympics Mount Pearl nominated Mary Holloway for the “Bridging the Gap” provincial award.. This award is presented to volunteers who have made significant contributions to the development of recreation opportunities for persons with a disability in an integrated setting.. We are delighted to announce that Mary will be this years Provincial Winner of the Bridging the Gap Award.. Mary Holloway has been a long-time volunteer with Special Olympics.. She first joined the organization in 1999 with Special Olympics Mount Pearl as a coach of their Floor Hockey program… and to this day has a soft spot in her heart for “her” team! Since her inaugural year with Special Olympics Mary has become a driving force behind the Special Olympics movement.. Mary’s involvement with Special Olympics has grown over the years from coach, to Program Coordinator of SO Mount Pearl, to Secretary of the Regional Leadership Conference, to Board Member of SO Newfoundland and Labrador and on to Sub-Committee  ...   to hear from her athletes long after she stops being their personal coach and loves the interaction with everyone during special events.. This past year Mary flew to that National Games in St.. Albert, Alberta to be a spectator at these truly wonderful Games.. However this was not Mary’s first experience a National Games.. In addition to the numerous Provincial Games that Mary has attended over the last several years; Mary has also been the Team Manager and Mission staff of 3 different National Games.. Position of Team Manager carries a heavy responsibility as all members of the team are their responsibility for the entire week! Responsibility to the athletes and to Special Olympics is nothing new to Mary as she is also the Province’s only Master Learning Facilitator for the Special Olympics Community course.. All coaches across our Province know who Mary is; as Mary is currently our only community course facilitator.. Mary travels all across our province to ensure that our coaches are getting the education they require to further the development of our athletes.. Please join us in Congratulating Mary on her accomplishment and wishing her a fun-filled evening as she accepts her award on June 2nd..
