    Descriptive info: Our Projects!.. Community Environmental Profiling.. Currently LSCAP is in the process of developing a community environmental profile of the area from Cartwright - Lodge bay.. In doing this we are recording information on the locations of: businesses, sewage outfalls, dumps, major woodcutting operations, etc.. The information gathered from this work will be used over the next 3 - 4 years to develop a Comprehensive Environmental Management Plan (CEMP) of the project area.. This plan will look at the most pressing environmental problems in our region and will outline the most effective ways of dealing with those problems so that people can enjoy a sustained or enhanced quality of life in our area.. Gilbert Bay  ...   part-time coordinator, Marilyn Penney, from Port Hope Simpson.. Marilyn will be helping DFO and the Gilbert Bay Steering Committee (GBSC) over the next while with such task as: project administration, public relations, fieldwork, etc.. Summer projects.. This summer we.. participated in two summer projects within our area.. One was hosted by the Conservation corps in the form of a Green Team in Cartwright.. The second project was stationed in Black Tickle and was made possible by a grant supplied by the provincial government.. Both teams did a beach cleanup/biodiversity survey in their communities..     Descriptive info: Employees!.. Rex Turnbull - Executive Director.. Rex was born and raised in Port Hope Simpson.. He graduated from the local high school in 1993.. He attended Sir Wilfred Grenfell College, Labrador College, and Westviking College throughout the 90s.. He worked in the crab processing industry during the summers and worked at the local Community Access Program as coordinator in the winters.. From 2002-2004 he worked with SmartLabrador as a fieldworker.. From 2004-2006 Rex returned to school to complete a Computer Support Specialist program with the College of the North Atlantic.. During his college training in 2004-2006, Rex participated in the local council activities, first being the treasurer, eventually becoming the council president in 2005-2006.. He also escalated his responsibilities by running and winning the aboriginal representative seat for the College of the North Atlantic.. Rex has been active in Zone 4 as a trainer, technician, and a volunteer for various groups and organizations for over 10 years.. He has worked with the schools, clinics, local businesses, etc.. Due to his work experience, Rex is a well known figure in the area.. As Executive Director of LSCAP, Rex is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the organization and for ensuring that the recommendations of LSCAP’s Board of Directors are carried out in order to ensure the objectives of the organization are met.. Marilyn Parr - Penney - Gilbert Bay MPA Community Coordinator.. Marilyn grew up in Port Hope Simpson, Labrador, spending summers in Sandy Hook as a participant in the summer cod fishery..  ...   a Forestry Coordinator, Marilyn planned and organized a Pan Labrador Forestry Forum for Labrador.. This forum brought together individuals involved in the forestry sector to discuss future plans for the forest industry.. While working with Chamber of Commerce Marilyn planned and organized a Business Forum for Business owners in Economic Zone 4.. She also planned and organized Calvary Pentecostal Tabernacle’s 70th Anniversary celebration, in 2006..     Descriptive info: Atlantic Coastal Action Program (ACAP).. ACAP is a community based program initiated by Environment Canada in 1991.. The program provides seed funding to its volunteer based partner sites so that they can carry out environmentally related work in their respective areas.. Since 1991, the program has grown to a network of 16 sites throughout Atlantic Canada.. Four of these sites are located in Newfoundland and Labrador, with the newest two being created in Labrador in 2006 - 2007.. Gilbert Bay Marine Protected Area (MPA).. The Gilbert Bay Marine Protected Area  ...   Atlantic Cod (.. Gadus morhua.. ).. LSCAP has a contract with Fisheries and Oceans Canada to provide coordination services for the Gilbert Bay MPA and has a part-time coordinator for the project, working out of its office in Port Hope Simpson.. Southeastern Aurora Development Corporation (SADC).. The Southeastern Aurora Development Corporation is the Regional Economic Development Board for Economic Zone 4 and was instrumental in organizing and establishing an ACAP site in the area.. Prior to LSCAP becoming incorporated as a business entity, SADC also provided administration services for the organization..
