  • Title: Heavenly Creatures
Descriptive info: Heavenly Creatures is a registered animal rescue charity dedicated to the care and protection of Newfoundland and Labrador s pet population.. Founded in 2001, Heavenly Creatures has rescued hundreds of homeless pets, from cats and dogs to rabbits and reptiles.. One of our major goals is to establish and maintain a no-kill animal complex in the St.. John's area.. Staggering Statistics.. Few people realize that every year in our province, thousands of healthy cats and dogs are unnecessarily euthanized.. For example, last year in St.. John s alone, almost 3000 animals were destroyed at humane shelters, which are not equipped to keep every animal for the length of time it takes to find a suitable adoptive home.. Heavenly Creatures provides an alternative to unnecessary euthanization foster care.. Our team of proactive volunteers and our amazing foster families make sure that every homeless pet who crosses our doorstep is guaranteed a forever home.. Over the last five years, Heavenly Creatures has established an extensive volunteer foster network.. Our foster parents give our animals shelter and care until a permanent home can be found.. This may take weeks or months, but it means the difference between life and death for a homeless pet.. The Heavenly Creatures team also works continuously to raise public awareness about the importance of spaying and neutering, and the cruel reality that homeless animals face.. Becoming a Guardian Angel.. Heavenly Creatures does not receive any government funding; it operates solely on private donations from concerned citizens and local businesses.. The Guardian Angel Program provides a steady income for Heavenly Creatures basic foster care expenses pet food, supplies and veterinary bills.. Under this program, sponsors pledge a monthly contribution which ensures that a homeless animal is kept in our foster care program until a loving home is found.. Through their generous contributions, our Guardian Angels earn their wings by giving a homeless pet a new lease on life.. There are.. four levels.. to the Guardian Angel Program:.. Silver Wings ($9.. 99 monthly).. See the Silver Wings Member List.. Golden Wings ($19.. See the Golden Wings Member List.. Platinum Wings ($29.. See the Platinum Wings Member List.. Heavenly Halo ($49.. See the Heavenly Halos Member List.. Click this button to donate by PayPal.. Your donation of $9.. 99 a month (approx.. $120 yearly) ensures that a homeless pet enjoys the care and comfort of a foster home while awaiting adoption.. Your donation will ensure your sponsored pet receives basic supplies, such as food,  ...   a free Heavenly Creatures t-shirt and a free one-year membership, which includes a subscription to our quarterly newsletter.. Heavenly Halo sponsors provide lots of everything! Your contribution of $49.. 99 monthly (approx.. $600 yearly) covers a variety of vital needs, including the fostering of multiple animals, the provision of basic medical care, and a donation to our Spay and Neuter Program.. URGENT: Callie needs a foster home!.. Posted June 18th, 2012.. VERY URGENT:.. Callie is a beautiful three-pawed calico cat who is staying at a vet clinic because she has nowhere else to go; we rescued her on Friday from a local pound where she had just finished weaning a litter of kittens that she had had outside.. We really need to find her a foster home by TOMORROW, as we can't afford to keep her there any longer.. Callie is missing one of her front paws.. We don't know she lost her paw, if indeed she ever had it - it may be a birth defect.. Callie is a very sweet cat who deserves a god home after all she's been through.. If you can foster her, please call us at.. 739-0077.. or e-mail info@heavenlycreatures.. Teagan.. Posted June 26th, 2012.. Teagan's Profile:.. Male Kitten.. Short-haired.. Likes other cats.. Born in March, 2012.. Very cuddly.. On a cold Sunday in March, little Teagan was born outside to a stray cat.. He was luckier than most because he was part of a managed colony and he and his litter mates were quickly whisked off inside where they were given a chance at finding a home.. Here he is some 12 weeks later, a fine little boy waiting for his happily ever after.. He loves to chase his much older foster brothers and sisters.. He plays with his toys, with a clothespin, with a drinking straw, with a crumb on the floor, his shadow, his tail, with anything.. He plays until he actually falls asleep in a sitting position.. As active and playful as he is, he loves to be cuddled.. As soon as he is touched or picked up, he instantly breaks into his loud kitty purrs of joy and contentment.. All he needs is someone to promise him a forever home where he will be loved and cared for (and neutered at 6 months).. Please help Teagan complete his journey from being born outside to being a part of your loving family.. He's ready to fill your heart and your life with a special love that only a kitty can give.. URGENT: Lilly needs a foster home!.. Updated July 8th, 2012.. Update:.. Lilly had her surgery on Friday! She had a hind leg amputated, and was spayed - no more kittens for her!.. Had it not been for the kindess of the public, we could never have afforded to save Lilly.. Lilly, and Heavenly Creatues thank you from the bottom of our hearts for giving her this richly-deserved second chance.. She's been through so much, and now she gets to have a proper life!.. We can't believe how fast she has bounced back from major surgery.. When we visited her yesterday, she was bright-eyed, and happy.. She was up and moving about on three legs as though she had never had a fourth!.. Now all she needs is a.. FOSTER HOME.. ; she is ready to leave the clinic, but has nowhere to go - can anyone foster our tripod girl until she finds an adoptive home? If you can help, please call us at.. or e-mail.. info@heavenlycreatures,ca.. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++=.. Lilly is a stray cat who recently had four kittens.. Lilly's kittens' lives almost ended before they really began - she and her four kittens were recently brought to a vet clinic to be destroyed.. Thankfully, we were able to save them before that happened, and boy are we glad we did - they didn't need to be put to sleep.. Lilly is a wonderful cat, and a brave mama - she raised her babies outside all by herself, and managed to do it despite a bad leg.. When Lilly arrived at the vet clinic, it was noticed that she walks with a pronounced limp.. We had her x-rayed, and the vet found that her leg was broken, not treated, and didn't heal properly on its own.. Lilly's vet cannot fix her leg - there is no choice but to amputate it.. Lilly had leg amputation surgery on Friday, July 6th, 2012.. By sending an e-mail money transfer to.. By calling the vet clinic, Sunrise Animal Hospital, where Lilly is staying/having her surgery:.. Posted 5 July 2012.. Peaches Profile:.. approx.. 12 - 14 weeks old.. very pretty, long-haired, dilute ginger/white.. good with other cats.. sweet temperament.. 9 July 2012.. Here's an update from Peaches' foster mom, along with a couple of new pictures:.. Our little Peaches, well, she is just that, she is a peach.. she is a very playful girl, and loves to pounce.. She is not fond of it, but does allow me to clip her nails, but looks all bothered when I get her settled, kind of like she is saying 'come on now, I have things to do and toys to pounce on'.. She is interested in everything from magazines to shoes.. She does respond well to 'no' commands and spray bottle discipline.. And she's getting along fine with Jake, our other foster cat.. I must say though she is way too sweet and precious to stay mad at too long, and when I say too long, I am talking like about 10 seconds :).. In short, she is cuddly and playful and inquisitive.. Everything anyone would want in a kitten.. About Peaches:.. T.. his sweet kitten was saved from a sad life outside by a caring lady in Conception Bay South, who took in, not one, but two, pregnant cats a couple of months ago.. She is adopting both mother cats and will have them spayed as soon as possible, but needed help with finding homes for their 7 kittens.. Little Peaches is a typical, inquisitive kitten who is presently in foster care with another cat and several other animals including dogs and a rabbit.. Her siblings, Fiona, Marigold, and Mila, are also available for adoption and can be seen on our website.. We ll be posting an update and new pictures from Peaches foster family soon, so stay tuned! If you're interested in adopting Peaches, please contact us at.. 739-0077.. or.. Fiona.. Fiona's Profile:.. very pretty, short-haired, black/white with grey ears.. affectionate and cuddly.. Fiona, as we have christened her, is a typical, inquisitive little kitten who is presently in foster care with other cats and doing well.. Her siblings, Peaches, Marigold, and Mila, are also available for adoption and can be seen on our website.. Here are some updates from Fiona's foster mom:.. June 28 -.. She's settling in very nicely and she's already playing with some toys I gave her and cuddling in my lap while I'm on the computer.. She also loves her scratching post, she's eaten and gone to the litter, so I'd say she's doing great!.. July 3 -.. Fiona is doing wonderful! She's eating and playing constantly.. I have now introduced her to my kitties and my youngest (he's a stray I found in my backyard) thinks I brought her home just for him! He hardly leaves her side and the two of them are constantly playing.. I still keep her in the computer room at night but this morning I noticed that my oldest, Casey, had a sleepover with her last night! He must have been sleeping in the carrier when I put her in the room!.. July 5 -.. Here's some photos I took of my foster fur baby.. It's hard to catch her sitting still for any length of time.. She's a real sweetie and very sociable! She has a ferocious appetite for such a little girl - she runs to everyone else's bowl as soon as hers is gone!.. This little girl would adjust very easily in a home with other cats and will be a great addition to any home.. Please contact us at 739-0077 or.. if you would like to adopt Fiona.. FIV positive (not symptomatic.. Can't live with other cats (because of his FIV).. About Gilbert:.. We're seeking a new foster, or better still, adoptive home for Gilbert, as his current foster dad is moving and can't take him along.. He's a young boy (approximately two to three years old), who came to us in late 2010.. Our understanding is that his former owners wouldn't let him in the house.. He then wound up at a pound, which is where Heavenly Creatures found him.. Gilbert will need a home with no other cats because he is FIV positive.. FIV is the feline equivalent of HIV and although it can be transferred to other cats, it is is not contagious to humans or dogs.. Although he tested positive, you would never know it - he is not on any medication and is showing no symptoms at all.. He has energy to spare!.. Poor Gilbert hasn't had an easy life, but that certainly doesn't slow him down! He's energetic and tons of fun.. He sure appreciates having a nice, warm place to spend his nights.. Gilbert's foster mom sent us this update:.. Gilbert has come quite a long way since we first met, from moody, unpredictable kitty to affectionate cuddle bug.. Okay with dogs, and other cats (after the initial warming-up period).. Loves to play on the cat climber and watch the birds from the window.. About Primrose:.. Primrose came to us in the winter of 2012 after being rescued from a local pound.. She was scared, flea ridden, and had a urinary tract infection when she first arrived.. If you can foster sweet Primmy, please call us!.. Primrose's foster mom sent us this update:.. Primrose is an absolutely beautiful cat.. She has gorgeous soft fur and a big fluffy tail.. Jed's Profile:.. 3-4 years old.. Affectionate.. FIV positive (so needs to go to a home with no other cats, or a cat who is also FIV positive).. About Jed:.. Jed is a sweet boy who wants everyone to know that he loves catnip toys, and to be brushed.. Life thus far hasn't been easy for Jed, but we are so happy that he is happy and healthy now.. Jed was what we call a forgotten feline.. He was an unneutered, injured stray (he had a badly infected leg that has healed) who was rescued from the streets back in December.. Poor Jed hobbled around on three legs for weeks until we were able to catch him.. We know from the woman who was feeding him, that he had been on the streets for at least a year or more.. Jed is FIV positive, but is not showing any symptoms - he has lots of energy! FIV is NOT transferrabe to humans, or dogs.. Many cats with FIV live long, happy lives.. Jed has been staying in a temporary foster home, but now that he`s healed, and neutered, he`s ready for a longer-term foster home while he awaits adoption (he needs more space - he is confined to one room in his current foster home because there are other cats).. if you would like to foster or adopt Jed.. Neutered male.. 6 months old (as of March).. Loves other cats.. Needs a quiet home.. Tested negative for FIV and Feline Leukemia.. About Franklin:.. Franklin came to Heavenly Creatures in late March of 2012 after being surrendered to a local pound.. He was scared, and confused to be locked up there.. Franklin will need a gentle guardian to show him that things are safe now and reassure him when things get a bit scary to him.. If you feel like Franklin might be right for you, please contact us.. Franklin's foster mom sent us this update:.. When Franklin first came to me, he had just been sprung from a local pound.. He was terrified of people, but loved my cats.. After some gentle coaxing, Franklin warmed to me and is now a delight to have around.. He's still a little bit jumpy and should probably go to a quiet, relaxed home.. Franklin is exceptional with my other cats.. All he wants is to be close to them, and to be groomed by them.. When he sees me petting the other cats, he will come over for a scratch himself.. I am so happy to be able to continue hanging out with Franklin, showing him that us humans are pretty cool until the right home comes along!.. if you would like to adopt Franklin.. If you would like to sponsor Franklin to help him on his road to a second chance, please click below, or visit our.. Sooty.. Updated May 9th, 2012.. Sooty's Profile:.. Shaved (was badly matted when he came to us on March 5th).. Tested negative for FIV and Feleuk.. About Sooty:.. We rescued Sooty from a pound, who had rescued him from the streets.. Sooty is currently staying at a local vet clinic because he has nowhere else to go.. This is not as nice for him as being in a foster home would be, and it costs the charity money daily to board him there.. Sooty was in bad shape when he came to us - though you can`t tell from these pictures, almost his entire coat was matted right to the skin; he has a lot of bruising consequentially.. Heavenly Creatures had Sooty neutered, shaved, and tested for Feleuk, and FIV (he was negative).. Sooty's Foster Mom says:.. Sooty is a wonderful boy who came to stay with us about two months ago.. He wasn t in great shape when we first got him.. He was a bit thin and his skin was purple due to a very bad case of matting.. Heavenly Creatures had to have him shaved and some of the mats were right down to his skin! Poor boy.. His fur is starting to grow back but he still has a bit of a lion look which our cats find a bit interesting maybe even funny! He has put on weight and is no longer skinny he is just right.. Sooty loves his food, especially wet food and his Temptations treats.. He was obviously someone s pet before he ended up on the streets because he sure knows the sound of a can of cat food opening!.. At first Sooty did not get along with our cats but he seems to be coming around.. He loves to play with the other cats but he plays a bit rough.. He was afraid of the dogs but is learning to accept them now.. Sooty is a real people cat.. He loves his people and loves to cuddle, but on his terms.. If he wants to play he does not want to cuddle.. He also has a very strange fascination with water.. When he gets a drink he has to have his front feet in the bowl as well.. When he is not getting a drink, he loves to splash water around.. This morning he was in the TOILET! He doesn t mind if you flush it either.. The more swirling water the better.. Our cats were all sitting outside the bathroom door watching Sooty with great interest and fascination!.. Sooty probably would not be suitable for a family with small children because he can play rough.. Other than that he would make a great addition to any family because he is a great cat that will keep you entertained and give you lots of love.. if you would like to foster or adopt Sooty.. Medium-haired.. About Missy:.. Missy is a sweet young girl who Heavenly Creatures rescued from a local pound; she was brought in as a stray, and not claimed by whoever owned her.. She would have been needlessly destroyed if we hadn't taken her, for no other reason than lack of a place to stay.. We found Missy a foster home to keep her safe while she awaits adoption.. We recently had her spayed - now all she needs is a purrfect adoptive home to treasure her until the end of her days.. Missy's foster mom sent us this update:.. Missy is a very sweet, energetic cat.. She is affectionate and loves to cuddle or lie down on the couch or bed with me.. She likes to have my attention and follows me around the house to stay in my company.. She is also very playful.. She loves to play "fetch" where I will throw a little ball down the hall, she'll run after it and carry it back to me.. She also loves to climb around the house on anything she can! Sometimes she uses her claws, but only to get around, not to intentionally scratch you.. if you would like to adopt Missy.. Storm's Profile:.. 6 months (Estimated DOB: September 2011).. Good with other cats.. A bit timid of loud noises.. Very cuddly!.. About Storm:.. Storm is a beautiful young cat.. He is a initially a bit timid but when he warms up he loves to cuddle in close for snuggles!.. Storm and three other young cats (Olivia, Hunter, and Zoey) were strays from Holyrood.. We rescued them from a local pound who had brought them to a vet clinic to be destroyed - thankfully we got them in time.. Heavenly Creatures has had Storm neutered, and he is now tucked away in a foster home with two other cats; he is getting along great with his foster brothers, they all love to play together!.. Storm would love to have a permanent home, so if you're looking for a sweet and loving companion, he might be just right for you!.. Storm's foster mom sent us this update:.. Storm is a very affectionate, sweet kitten.. However he doesn't like loud noises, they frighten him.. He loves to sleep on the foot of the bed, or anywhere he can squeeze in for a cuddle.. He also loves to play with his foster brothers.. Although he is getting along great in his foster home, he can't wait to find a forever home.. Snicker's Profile:.. Male.. 5 months old (DOB Dec.. 1st, 2011).. Long-haired.. Good with dogs.. About Snickers:.. Snickers was born in foster care to a pregnant mother cat who Heavenly Creatures rescued in late November.. His siblings, and mom, have all been adopted, so Snickers is wondering why he hasn't been chosen.. Snicker's foster mom sent us this update:.. Snickers is one of the most adorable kittens I have ever seen, and I have three of my own.. Snickers in more laid back than Skittles, and prefers to watch his brother play, but when he finds a toy he like watch out because isn't letting it go easy.. Good with other cats (Please note: Zoey must go to a home with another cat for company for her).. Good with dogs.. About Zoey:.. Zoey is a beautiful young cat - these pictures don't do her justice - who Heavenly Creatures rescued in late February.. Zoey and three other young cats who are thought to be related to her (Olivia, Hunter, and Storm) were strays from Holyrood.. We rescued them from a local pound who had brought them to a vet clinic to be destroyed - thankfully we got them in the nick of time.. Heavenly Creatures has had Zoey spayed, and placed her in foster care while she awaits the purrfect adoptive home.. Zoey's foster mom says:.. She is the sweetest kitten and loves to cuddle.. She is so friendly and purrs the moment you touch her.. Zoey loves to be loved and enjoys being close.. She has been socialized with my other animals and quickly bonded with yawl cats.. She is well behaved and so easy to have around!! She is very calm but still loves to play!.. if you would like to adopt Zoey.. Tends to play a bit "rough".. Does not like dogs.. About Jake:.. Jake was abandoned by his former owners and was taken in by Heavenly Creatures last year.. He is a handsome boy with beautiful and distinct markings.. He does tend to be a bit aggressive when playing, i.. e.. forgets to keep his claws in, so he'll need a patient and tolerant home where he can learn that this behaviour is not acceptable.. Jake doesn't get along well with dogs, and we're not sure how he is with other cats, but we suspect that he might be best as the sole cat in the house.. We also feel that a home without young children would be advisable.. Apart from his "rough play", Jake is a very pleasant and laidback cat.. if you would like to adopt Jake.. Petite (looks like a four-five month old kitten).. In foster care with cats and dogs.. Loves running water, playing in the laundry basket, sleeping under the covers, and lounging in the cat climber.. About Malibu:.. Malibu loves: cuddling, sleeping in the bed with us, her cat tree, her cat house, boxes, playing in the laundry basket, wet food, and catnip :).. Malibu's foster mom sent us this update:.. Malibu is a darling little tabby girl who anyone would be lucky to have! She is a tiny girl, but has a big purr.. We offered to foster her because I felt sorry for her - she was stuck in a cage at a local pound (she was brought there because her owner was moving).. It's taken her a while to relax (she's a sensitive soul), to get over her time stuck in a strange place in a cage, but she's coming around.. She takes a while to warm up to other animals, but will not bother them if they don't bother her.. Before coming to stay with us, she lived with two other cats.. If I didn't already have several pets, I would adopt dear Malibu myself.. if you would like to adopt Malibu.. Spayed female.. 10 years old.. Found in Holyrood.. Not good with other cats.. About Holly:.. Holly was rescued from a pound before Christmas.. She was picked up for roaming, and hasn't been claimed by her owners.. She is a senior girl who was already spayed, so she must have been well-loved at some point.. Her foster mom says she is a sweet cat who loves to sleep in the bed every night.. She loves to be petted, just loves being touched.. She has such a pleasant, docile personality except when she is around her other cat.. She just doesn't like to share her snuggletime; she'd do best in a home where she was the only cat.. Holly needs a new foster home because she isn't getting along with the cat in her foster home.. Friendly and affectionate.. Needs some care with food because he has very few teeth.. Came to us as an already-neutered stray from a local pound; he wasn't claimed by his owner.. Finnegan's foster mom sent us this update:.. Finnegan has settled in well in his new digs.. He spent the first hour exploring every nook and cranny in the house and then chose his favourite chair (the blue one) and started to purr.. He is a delightful companion, following us around from room to room, purring and brushing against us when he wants attention.. While he doesn't like to be held for a long time, he does seem to appreciate being picked up for a quick cuddle now and then and loves to curl up beside anyone who sits to watch TV.. He is very sociable and not at all shy with visitors.. He will make his way around the room until he has received sufficient attention from everyone and then, if his chair has been occupied, and after a withering look at the offender, will regally retire to his scratch pad until the company has departed.. He is very clean and particular with his grooming and with his litter box.. He will chirp and wait expectantly while his food is prepared and then purr while he eats.. For an older cat he is still very agile and has no problem jumping from the floor to the back of the sofa or other sundry furniture.. He doesn't always respond if he is being called but he will come running if you whistle.. He will sometimes chase a laser pointer if he is in the mood to play but mostly prefers to sit still until his prey is within swatting distance.. smart cat!.. Altogether, Finnegan seems quite satisfied with life as he struts about the house with his elegant swagger and waving his gorgeous, jaunty tail.. We are thoroughly enjoying having Finnegan in our home.. if you would like to adopt Finnegan.. Update 9 July 2012.. Spencer has recently gone to a new foster home because his foster mom was moving out of province and couldn't take him with her.. He's settled into his new digs now, and here's what his foster mom has to say:.. Spencer is doing just great, we had a few rocky days where he was trying to get used to my dog but all is well now and they get along just fine.. He and my cat get along well and play and hang out together, and Spencer is no longer afraid of my dog, that came to an end pretty quick once he figured out that Bowie is more scared of him that he is of Bowie! He's also been very well-behaved and has taken to my boyfriend and I quite well, he is quite the little cuddler!.. About Spencer:.. This handsome boy was surrendered by his owner last fall, and has been in a wonderful foster home since then.. However, their circumstances have changed and they are no longer able to adopt Spencer as planned:.. It's with a heavy heart that we cannot adopt him as we had planned but I hope that someone will see this wonderful boy and give him a home filled with just as much love as he has been getting here.. His favorite toy is his cat house! And seeing as he loves it so much, he can take  ...   a lot of love for them now.. We will make sure they are never cold again.. if you would like to foster Ava.. Doogie and his sister Ava have been in a potential adoptive home for several months, but unfortunately they now need a new place to live because their foster mom's circumstances have changed and she isn't able to adopt them.. Please contact us if you would like to foster or adopt Doogie and Ava:.. Darling Doogie and his sister Ava are.. still.. waiting for someone to realize just what wonderful companions they can be.. Doogie and Ava will need a new place to go by April 21 -.. if you would like to foster or adopt Doogie and Ava.. Doogie and Ave are doing great in their new foster home.. We're trying to ensure that this sweet brother and sister remain together - they are very low maintenance and once they know that they can trust you, they'll reward you with such affection that you'll wonder how you ever did without them in your life! Please contact us if you'd like to meet Doogie and his big sister, Ava.. Updated February 28, 2012.. Doogie and his sister Ava moved to a new foster home today.. They're sad to leave their good friend, Kate, but are looking forward to getting to know their new foster mom.. New photos of Doogie have been added (last 2).. He's having a great time playing the Friskies IPad fishing game - such a clever boy!.. We're pleased to report that Doogie and Ava are out of the clinic and back in their previous foster home, but only until the.. end of February.. Doogie is the best cat I have ever known, and I think this is because he started out so frightened and scared and then I spent so long trying to get him to trust me, and to purr etc.. so now it is amazing to see.. I have never had a cat where he just collapses on me upside down and I can pick him up and cuddle him like a baby.. If he is hungry he will be glued to my leg until I feed him but like Ava, he is not a noisy cat so will just purr and push his head into my leg until I get the hint, it is very sweet.. He has the softest fur too and if I was not going away traveling I would keep this cat for sure, and I hope he and Ava can find a place to go.. He will be nervous at first and he does take longer to trust people, especially men and he is scared of loud noises.. However once past this, you will be rewarded with the sweetest little boy I have ever known! And combined with Ava, they both enjoy each others company when I am out, and when I am in, I love watching their games and play.. Doogie, along with his sister Ava, are currently staying at a local veterinary clinic because their previous foster home could no longer look after them.. Ideally, we would like to keep Doogie and Ava together, as he is quite timid and dependent on her.. Doogie's foster mom sent us this update:.. Doogie is more timid than his sister, but he still loves to come, cuddle and parade around my legs like a lion, head butting my leg as I get his food ready.. He has a very soft, silky fur and In the evenings, he will cuddle upside down, purring loudly which is sweet.. He will take more time to get used to you, and if you have guests visit who he doesn't know, he will hide until they leave, but he will reward you with being your own secret, personal friend, as soon as he knows he can trust you.. I think he would take a week or so to come around, but once you have him, then he his a great cat.. Like his sister Ava, he is quiet, as we have trained them not to meow for food/attention; he will quietly wait in the mornings which is great.. He has fun running about playing with Ava.. He loves to follow us around and watch us, and he loves to play with his sister Ava.. He also loves to play with our feet! He is inquisitive, very easy to look after and quiet.. if you would like to foster Doogie.. Would probably do best as an only pet.. About Koda:.. Koda has been taken into Heavenly Creatures' care and is currently placed in a foster home.. He was not getting along with the other animals in his previous home, and so he had to be kept separate from them.. Being sectioned off from the rest of the household was making him unhappy - he doesn't want to be stuck in one room.. His family wanted him to find a home where he can have full run of the house, be king of the castle, and consequentially a lot happier!.. Koda's foster family sent us this update:.. Koda loves small play mice.. He loves to roll around with his toys, and he will purr extremely loud to let you know that he is happy.. He loves treats, and if he s waiting for his favorite kind, you may even see him drool!.. He loves to lie down with you, and really enjoys being scratched on the face.. Gorgeous, unusual colouring.. About Simone:.. Simone is a beautiful young cat with a sweet demeanour, and very gorgeous, unusual colouring.. We estimate her to be two years or less.. We rescued her on Feb.. 3rd, 2012 from a local pound.. She had been picked up for roaming, and not claimed by whoever owned her; she would have been euthanized for lack of a place to go if we hadn't taken her.. She was spayed the day we rescued her, and is now tucked away in a foster home with one of the cats who was also at the pound when she was (Pookey).. We'll have new pictures, and an update from her foster parents soon.. Simone says:.. I'm thrilled to be out of that nasty pound where I was cooped up in a cage all the time! Coal's Profile:.. 7 months old.. Very affectionate.. Coal's foster mom sent us this update:.. Coal is growing to be a tall, handsome boy! Since he's come to stay with us he has been full of energy and life.. It only took a couple of days for Coal to get used to my adult cat, and now they play and nap together all the time! He immediately warmed up to all the people in the house, and he gets so excited when we come home from work and school.. His favourite toy is a furry mouse that rattles--he won't let my cat play with it and he comes running as soon as he hears it! He's a well behaved kitty who waits very patiently for his food, which is more than I can say for my own cat.. Coal's favourite acivities are playing, running, and cuddling.. Despite his leg, he runs as fast as he can around the house all the time--he can easily keep himself amused, and gets along great with my cat when they play.. Sometimes he can be a bit rough since he's still a kitten, and my cat is very petite-- he's already just as big as her and still growing! Coal gets along great with people as well, and should be a great addition to homes with other cats and lots of people.. He spends his time sleeping on our scratching post, or curling up on someone's lap.. He's been a great source of warmth this winter.. Coal is very sweet and friendly.. He's a soft spoken kitty that can get pretty talkative at times! And if you call out to him he'll let out little chirps and rush over to see you.. Coal loves to join us in bed but since the kitties are big night owls, we tend to shut them out of our room at night, and let them in early in the morning.. The cats are so excited to join us again that they come in for big cuddles.. Coal has started the adorable habit of stretching out next to us and reaching up with his paws to poke our noses and make sure we're awake so that we can pay attention to him.. He's a big purr machine, and even as I type this he's laid across my lap with his paw and head resting on my hand.. if you would like to adopt Coal.. Kitkat has been neutered, and is now safely tucked away in a foster home.. We've just posted a picture of him relaxing on his foster parents' couch - look how comfy he looks! He's so happy to be out of a cage, and in a home.. 9th, 2011.. Good news!.. Kitkat is being rescued from the pound today! He will be.. neutered.. this morning, and then is going to a trial adoptive home.. Posted July 31st, 2011.. Urgent message:.. If you would like to foster or adopt this sweet boy? Call us at.. or email.. His time is running out!.. Kitkat's Story.. Kitkat is a sweet little boy, we estimate between 6 and 8 months old, who is currently locked up in a local pound.. His current living conditions are terrible.. ; he spends his days in a small dirty cage without any comforts, just pacing and waiting for someone to take him away.. He s recently gotten a bald spot from the stress and anxiety that comes with living in such a place.. He is.. very affectionate.. and does not deserve to die for simply being alive!.. If he is not adopted or placed in foster care in the next few days though, his little life will be over before it even had a chance to begin.. We're desperately seeking foster care for Linus before he is put to death.. Amber.. Update: May 20, 2011.. Little Amber has finally found a foster home.. But she is still on the lookout for her forever home! Is that with you?.. Amber is spayed, approximately 1 year old and is good with other cats.. Posted May 6, 2011.. Amber is a sweet little female cat who's time is running out at a local pound.. She is sad and is therefore a little nervous and scared.. She doesn't know why she's been left alone in a metal cage with no one to scratch her behind the ears or tell her she's beautiful.. This kitty is so sweet and so scared.. we can't just leave her there to die.. She will never know why and will die without ever having the chance to make someone's life happy.. To save Amber, we need foster care and some funding to cover her veterinary care and spay.. Can you help us save little Amber's life?.. We rescued Miss Lucy from a pound last year.. She is.. spayed.. , and is 3-4 years old.. Lucy is currently in a foster home where she is an only pet.. Please call 739-0077 if you are interested in Lucy!.. Maxwell.. Update, April 29, 2011.. We can't understand why dear Maxwell hasn't found his forever home.. He's a wonderfully loving boy who's come a long way since he first came to Heavenly Creatures almost a year ago.. Here' s the latest from his foster mom:.. Maxwell is still doing great.. He's definitely settled in.. He's even more affectionate now than ever.. He's even gotten into greeting people when they come visit us.. He's definitely not the shy scared cat he used to be.. And he's growing so fast.. He is actually bigger than both my own cats now.. So, that's pretty much all that's new and exciting in Maxwell's world.. other than that there's just a whole lot of eating, sleeping, and playing.. I'll keep you posted.. Maxwell is wondering when he's going to be adopted - if you think that he might be just the right cat for you, please contact us - you'll be glad you did!.. If you are interested in meeting Maxwell, please call us at 739-0077 or email info@heavenlycreatures.. Update, October 16, 2010.. I'm proud to say that Maxwell has become one of the most cuddly and affectionate cats you could ever imagine.. He now loves nothing more than to curl up with you and snuggle - which is why I now call him my little teddy bear.. He has completely fallen in love with my other cats, and adores playing and curling up with them for a nap which is just so adorable to watch.. He has become an all around wonderful companion, and is just the most calm, loving, and beautiful animal you could imagine.. Maxwell's Story: May 31, 2010.. Maxwell is a young cat who was abandoned, and was emaciated when one of our volunteers found him.. She has kindly taken him in, and had him.. Here is a write up that Maxwell sent us this morning:.. Hey everyone, my name is Maxwell (the Magnificent) or so my foster mom says.. I am a very happy cat these days; my foster Mom rescued me from living on the streets.. I was trying to survive outside for most of the winter after my owners abandoned me.. It was so cold and I was so hungry.. I only weigh about 6 pounds and that is very skinny for a kitty like me.. My foster mom told me that at her house, if I can eat it, she can open it - and boy does she mean it! I ve never seen so much food in my life!.. I am loving my life now.. There s only been one little glitch and that was when she brought me to the vet.. I m sorta feeling like I m missing something today, hmmmm.. But I trust my Mom, cause she would never do anything to hurt a cat.. Now for a little about myself: I m about 1 - 2 years old and I m a very lovable boy.. I love being in someone s arms, on a lap - anywhere you are, I m happy.. I m very gentle too.. My foster mom cut my nails the first day she rescued me and I didn t care one bit.. She is amazed that I still have so much trust in people after the winter I ve been through.. It was so hard living on the streets.. But I really think I ve landed on easy street now.. My Mom says that she knows that there is someone out there looking for a perfect apricot cat to love and they will come looking for me.. Mom said that my trip to the vet was costly so I should say thanks to a couple of special angels for helping her out with the cost of my neuter, so to Edna and Margaret, THANK YOU.. My mom did tell me that I m a very good kisser, so any time either of you want a little extra loving from a wonderful boy, just come on over.. I m available for lap duty anytime!.. Zorro.. Posted April 16th, 2012.. Zorro's Profile:.. About Zorro:.. This handsome cat was already neutered when he was found wandering in the Field Street area last fall, so he clearly once had a home and family.. Zorro is a little timid, but once he trusts you, he is quite friendly and laidback.. His current foster mom cannot keep him any longer, so we are looking for a place for him to stay while we continue to search for his original owners.. If they are not found, Zorro will be available for adoption, and in the meantime, just needs a place to hang out.. He s a good boy, and gets along well with other cats if you can give Zorro a temporary home, he d be very grateful.. if you would like to foster or adopt Zorro.. Fingers crossed it works out for him!.. Updated June 5, 2011.. Mario is finally out of the pound and settled away in his foster home! His foster 'mom' reports that he is fitting in great and is a joy to have around.. She says he likes to follow her around all the time, and likes to sleep on her bed at night.. He likes to be petted and picked up and is constantly purring.. Is Mario the right kitty for you?.. Mario's eyes say that he has given up hope.. Though we can tell he was once a happy and lively kitty, he seems to have adopted the feeling now that there's no one else out there who cares where he is; if he has food, if he ever purrs.. It's as though he's made up his mind that there's no sense in trying anymore.. He's accepted his fate - to die alone in his metal cage.. We at Heavenly Creatures find this to be unacceptable.. We.. have.. to find someway to show Mario that there are still people out there that care whether he lives or dies.. When one of our volunteers finally coaxed him to come out of his cage, he seemed not to be able to believe his good fortune.. He happily ate food from the volunteer's hand, rubbed up against her and soaked up the pats on the head she gave him.. When placed back in his cage however, he just retreated back under the ledge and gave up again.. With your help we can show Mario that there are still people who think his life is worth saving.. To meet this cat is heartbreaking.. we've got to get him out of there and into a nice warm foster home.. To donate to Mario's rescue, you can click on the PayPal button below, or visit our.. Winks.. Updated April 16th, 2012.. Keely.. Posted June 14th, 2012.. Keely's Profile:.. 11-12 weeks old.. female.. short-haired calico.. About Keely:.. Keely was rescued by.. Mollie's Dream.. , a local TNR (trap, neuter, return) organization who trapped her mother, Snowflake, with the intent to spay her.. She surprised them by giving birth shortly after they caught her.. Mollie's Dream sent Keely to Heavenly Creatures to help better her chance of adoption.. Keely's foster mom sent us this update:.. She's a little sweetie.. Loves to be cuddled.. She's already fallen asleep in my arms.. lol.. When she's not napping she loves to play, like all little kittens should!.. if you would like to adopt Keely.. Hunter's Profile:.. 6 months old (as of February).. Very sweet.. Good with other cats (Please note that Hunter must go to a home with another cat for company for him).. Great with children!.. Tested negative for Feleuk and FIV.. About Hunter:.. Poor Hunter came to Heavenly Creatures just in the nick of time.. He was set to be destroyed at a local vet clinic (a pound had brought him and three other young cats in) but thankfully we were called and disaster was averted! Hunter is an exceptionally sweet kitten who deserves to live a long safe life.. Could he be the right kitten for you?.. Hunter's foster mom sent us this update:.. Just wanted to let you know that Hunter is doing great.. He's an awesome kitty and we all love him to pieces! He's even getting along great our two cats!.. He can be a real stinker sometimes going after toes and surprise attacks on Rose but he's so cute and funny you can't stay mad at him for long :) He's always sleeping (as close as he can get) with one of my cats; I think he'd be very lonely if he were to be an only cat since he's so used to having a companion.. I have to say he is probably the nicest and gentlest cat I have ever known.. especially for a kitten.. He lets the kids pick him up (like a sack of potatoes) and he justpurrs like it's the greatest thing ever :) If he's asleep when they come home from school, he'll get up and go over and cuddle right up to them for pats.. He is super affectionate and just loves everybody he meets.. He really is an all around lovely guy.. if you would like to adopt Hunter.. Maizy's foster mom sent us this update:.. Maisy is a beautiful 8-9 week old kitten.. This little sweetheart was found at a local pound.. She was to little and scared to stay there so I just had to take her in until her furever home is found.. She is so affectionate you can't help but fall in love with her.. She likes to snuggle and purrs as soon as you touch her.. When you cuddle her you're sure to get kitten kisses and licks from this sweet girl.. Maisy is having great fun here with her foster sister, Moo, my own cat and dog, and my children.. Jake came to us in the summer of 2011 with three siblings.. They were locked up in a cage at a local pound, five weeks old, afraid, and alone.. Jake and his brother Finn are the only two from their litter who haven't found their forever homes yet.. If you're looking for a sweet, special kitty, please consider Jake!.. New pictures of Jake have been added, along with a note from his foster mom:.. I love Jake! He has grown so much since I've been fostering him and I believe that he still has a little growing to do.. Jake is an easy-going, laidback kitty perfect for a quiet house.. With the resident cats, he enjoys sleeping, cuddling, gentle wrestling and mutual cleaning.. At bedtime, he enjoys sleeping at the bottom of the bed, cuddling with an available human foot! He makes the funniest noises to say 'I love you' and will talk to you, welcoming you home from work and expressing his thanks for the wet food at dinner time.. Jake also has the mannerisms of a dog; this cat loves to fetch (his favorite is a makeup brush donated to this cause!) and dies for the type of pat more commonly reserved for dogs, with a few kitty-style neck scratches mixed in.. Jake is a very loyal, thoughtful kitty.. I've always known that Jake is the perfect companion for someone; I've just been holding onto him for you.. Please adopt Jake and let him show you how awesome he is!.. Higgins.. Updated April 20th, 2011.. Higgins' Profile:.. Bobtail cat.. About Higgins:.. Higgins came to us in August of 2009 as a stray from St.. John's.. He was dirty, thin, unneutered, and matted so badly he had to be shaved - he must have been on the street for a long time.. We took Higgins in, had him cleaned up and neutered, and placed him in foster care.. He's been in foster care for almost two years through no fault of his own.. He's a great cat who is waiting for somone to give him his furrever home.. Higgins' foster mom sent us this update:.. Higgins continues to respond to love, and no doubt he has come a very long way from his very early days.. Higgins would be very happy to be in a loving, caring, home.. He gets along really well with other cats.. He loves to play, and is equally happy entertaining himself playing soccer with his toys, when we play with him, or even sometimes with our other cats!.. if you would like to adopt Higgins.. About Socks:.. Socks is one of the 27 cats we took in from a situation in Baccalieu Trail.. Socks is a pretty calico who is about a year old.. She has been spayed since coming to Heavenly Creatures.. Socks gets along very well with other cats.. In fact, she is in a foster home with another HC cat, Tammy, who is also up for adoption.. Socks and Tammy have been with us now for over a year and a half waiting for the right home or homes.. Isn't there anyone who can adopt these sweet girls?.. * Please note: If Tammy and Socks can't go together, then they each must go to a home that includes another cat for company for them.. Socks and Tammy's foster mom sent us this update:.. They are very loving cats, especially with one another; they cudde and sleep together all the time.. They are both very petite cats although Tammy seems to have put on weight since she has been here.. They don't shed much, which works well for me.. I would love to have them go to a home together, but I am sure they would be fine on their own as well, as long as they each had another cat for company.. if you would like to adopt Socks.. Bosco is being adopted by his foster dad, who describes him as brilliant ! Another happy ending!.. Update February 6, 2012.. Bosco's Profile:.. 2-3 years old.. About Bosco:.. This is Bosco - a handsome grey, neutered, short-haired tabby; these pictures don't do him justice.. Unforunately, Bosco has found himself on what we call Death Row at a local pound.. He will be killed soon if his owner doesn't claim him, or if he isn't rescued by Heavenly Creatures.. He will be killed for no other reason than lack of space.. Update: Good news! Bosco is now in a lovely foster home and very happy to be out of his cage at the pound.. We'll post more information about his personality once he's had time to settle in.. Bosco sent us this from the pound:.. I am what you call a forgotten feline.. I sit in my cage day after day, waiting for someone to come for me, but no one ever does.. I don't know what I did wrong.. Why am I not allowed out to move around? What is this awful place? All of us cats here are scared because we don't know where we are, or what's going to happen to us.. Some nice people came to visit yesterday, and let us out of our cages for a while.. They also gave us some nummy wet food.. They said they wanted to take us, but they have to find places to put us first.. Otherwise we are going to be put to sleep , whatever that means.. I do enough sleeping here as it is because there's nothing else to do! I have no toys.. We have no one, and nothing here.. I am only a cat who you may think doesn't know much, but I know that isn't right.. PLEASE help! I will be a good cat, I promise.. I just want to be in a house again with something soft to lie on - we have nothing nice here.. You won't even know I am in your house! PLEASE, PLEASE HELP.. Posted March 15th, 2012.. Captain Kirk's Profile:.. Currently shaved because of severe matting.. Hates being in a cage!.. Update March 24, 2012.. Great news! This big boy went to a trial adoptive home today - we'll know in a few days if this will become his permanent home.. Fingers crossed for Captain Kirk!.. About Captain Kirk:.. This beautiful orange tabby was rescued from a local pound in late January and has since been neutered.. He is boarding at a local veterinary clinic while we search for a foster or adoptive home - this is not ideal, as he does not tolerate being confined in a cage, plus it is costing the charity boarding fees daily.. Poor Captain Kirk had to be shaved due to a severely matted coat, but his fur is just starting to grow back, and despite his current poodle look , he maintains a regal appearance! We don't know how Captain Kirk is with other cats or dogs, or with children, but feel that a home without young children would be best, at least until we can better assess his behaviour and temperament.. If you would like to help our Captain Kirk with a place to stay while we search for a permanent home, please contact us - he'll be so much happier, and very grateful.. if you would like to adopt Captain Kirk.. If you would like to sponsor Captain Kirk to help him on his road to a second chance, please click below, or visit our.. Malcolm.. Posted February 6th, 2012.. Malcolm's Profile:.. 3 years old.. About Malcolm:.. Here's a note from Malcolm's foster mom:.. Malcolm is a very quiet and mellow cat.. He can be a little jumpy if you move abruptly or make a loud noise, but calms down very quickly.. He loves to be brushed, and will even brush himself if you hold the comb in one spot.. He also loves having his lower back scratched and will lick his face and the air if you do so--a sight that is extraordinarily adorable!.. He gets along well with our other cat, and spends quite a bit of time playing with him.. Although we've only had him a short amount of time he has adjusted very well and has already scoped out his favourite places to sleep.. Malcolm has had a rough start to his life, but he's absolutely ready to settle into his forever home with you!.. if you would like to adopt Malcolm.. Extremely affectionate - loves everybody!.. Large cat - 13 lbs.. About Jango:.. This beautiful brown/black tabby was rescued by a kind woman from the streets in December (he'd been curled up in a ball by her door trying to keep warm), and brought to the nearest pound.. Unfortunately, the pound was running out of space, so when more cats came in, and Jango hadn't been adopted, he was going to be euthanized.. We rescued him in the nick of time, had him neutered, and boarded him over Christmas until a foster home opened up.. And boy are we glad to have had the pleasure of rescuing him - he is one of the sweetest cats we have ever had.. A note from Jango:.. Hi everyone! My name is Jango, or if you d prefer, some of the humans around also call me the little 2011 Christmas miracle.. I was supposed to be put to sleep on the day before Christmas Eve I was in a cage at pound, wondering why nobody wanted me.. Just when I had given up hope that I d ever have anyone to love me, a nice lady came and picked me up.. She promised me that no one would hurt me and that I d find my very own furrever home.. Well I was so happy to hear those words! When she and another nice lady at the vet let me out of the cage, all I wanted to do was purr and head-butt everyone and everything!.. The volunteers with Heavenly Creatures told me that I am just the sweetest, gentlest boy with the most loving personality they ve ever seen and it helps that I m pretty darn handsome too.. They said while a lot of cats might have been too scared to come out of the cage at first, I was the happiest little man on the planet.. Weighing in at almost 13 pounds, I m a pretty large boy, but that just means there s more of me to love, right? The girls at the vet are all raving so much about me, that even my head is starting to swell!.. The volunteers at Heavenly Creatures say they re not sure if I ve had any exposure to other cats or dogs, or to children, but due to my loving and laid-back personality, they re confident that I could be easily socialized with children and other pets.. I was pretty scared when they told me that I tested positive for FIV, but they said that I m a happy and otherwise healthy boy with no symptoms of illness.. Could my home be with you? I promise to be a purr-machine and to give you all the head-butts you could ever ask for!.. if you would like to adopt Jango.. Updated, June 14th, 2012.. Briar's Profile:.. May not be good with cats.. Seems to be a Pointer cross.. Medium size (less than fifty pounds, and is too thin at the moment).. About Briar:.. This older neutered male dog, who we're calling Briar, was found in May, and never claimed by his owners (if you recognize him, please let us know).. Briar is already neutered, but needs to be vet-checked.. If you can help us with the cost of his vet care, please see our donation information below.. Briar's foster mom says:.. Since Briar has been here, I have really gotten a good picture of him and I am absolutely amazed by his behavior given what he has been through.. He is quiet, never gets rowdy and he is just an all around gentleman.. He would be a perfect addition to any family.. I can't say enough good things about him.. if you would like to adopt Briar.. Lacey had her surgery on July 8th, and while very groggy the last couple of days, is doing well.. Enormous thanks go out to all who helped us pay for her care.. Updated July 4th, 2012.. Lacey is a two and a half year old Lab/Malamute/Hound cross with a beautiful temperament.. Lacey came to us from a local pound recently.. She had been picked up yet again for roaming, but this time her owners did not claim her.. Lacey has suffered from chronic, untreated, ear infections.. Lacey has obviously been neglected to a certain degree.. Besides her bad ears, she has a skin issue, and was bred recently.. One of Lacey's ears is in really bad shape.. To see a video of how Lacey's ear is hurting her, please click.. here.. Poor Lacey has spent a long time shaking her head, and scratching at her ears because of the chronic untreated infections inside.. The untreated ear infections has left one of her ears extremely swollen with scar tissue, and congealed blood - you can barely find her ear canal.. Lacey has lost most, if not all, of her hearing in that ear as a result.. Lacey is having Lateral Ear Resection Surgery at Sunrise Animal Hopsital on Monday, July 9th - we need to raise $1800, possibly more, to cover the cost of her ear surgery, her spay, and allergy testing (to determine why she chews at her skin).. We have over one hundred other animals in our care, and consequentially can't afford Lacey's much-needed surgery without your help.. Please give, so that we can get her the veterinary care she needs.. Her surgery may restore her hearing, but even if it doesn t, it has to be done anyway so that we can better access her ears and finally treat the infections she deserves some relief.. HOW TO HELP US HELP LACEY.. Life thus far hasn't been the best for Lacey but with your help we can create a better life for her!.. Donate directly to the clinic where Lacey will be having her surgery:.. Sunrise Animal Hospital.. Phone: 368-7981 (press option 2 to speak with a staff member), or visit the clinic at 222 Park Avenue; they're open from 8 a.. to 8 p.. Monday through Friday, and from 9 a.. to 3 p.. on Saturdays.. Just say you would like to make a donation to Lacey.. Please leave your name and address if you would like a tax receipt.. Donate by cheque:.. Griffin.. Updated June 26th, 2012.. Griffin is now in foster care as of this past weekend.. His foster parents have a neutered male Labrador Retriever with whom he is having a great time running, and playing.. Griffin's Profile:.. Neutered medium-size Lab cross.. Five and a half years (born Dec.. 23rd, 2006).. Good with cats.. Needs companionship most of the day or another dog.. Raised with children.. About Griffin:.. Griffin was born in a Heavenly Creatures' foster home just before Christmas 2006.. His mom had come to us as a pregnant stray from a local pound.. This will be poor Griffin's third home.. He was adopted from us as a puppy, and returned when he was three because of a lifestyle change.. We placed him again, but Griffin's current family is no longer able to care for him, so we're seeking a new home.. This next home has to be his last - he doesn't deserve anymore bouncing around.. He, and most of his littermates, have separation anxiety.. He needs a home where there is either someone present most of the time, or there is another dog for company for him.. (he's not experiencing the separation anxiety in his current home because they have another dog, but he experienced it in his original home when the mom of the family, who had been home sine Griffin was a puppy, returned to work).. He's an active dog who will need an active family to keep him well-exercised.. We always say that a tired dog is a hapy dog!.. If you are interested in fostering or adopting Griffin, please call us at.. Updated June 26, 2012.. Born on Feb.. 18th, 2011.. Medium size (approx.. 35-40 pounds).. Must go to a home with another dog.. Husky cross (possibly with Border Collie).. Spayed.. About Missy.. Missy is a beautiful young Husky mix who was recently sent to us from Labrador; she was living on the streets of a remote community.. Kind people were feeding her, and got her to us so that she would have a better life.. Missy will be happiest with an active person or family that has another dog for company for her.. Growing up on the streets with other homeless dogs, she is accustomed to a lot of outdoor time, and canine company.. Like all the other Husky mixes we've rescued from Labrador, Missy is exceptionally affectionate.. You couldn't ask for a sweeter dog!.. Missy's foster mom says.. Missy is one of the most beautifuly-tempered dogs I have ever encountered.. She is a fairly quiet and a very sweet dog.. Missy is social and enjoys playing with other dogs and toys.. She is house trained, doesn't bark a lot, walks great on leash and LOVES being brushed!.. Having just arrivedhad to be introduced to things like getting into the car and with some gentle encouragement will now climb aboard on her own.. Missy is a smart dog that learns very quickly.. It has been a transition for her making a house her home, but once any animal starts to feel the love of a real family that's just what a house is.. home.. Daisy.. Posted May 23rd, 2012.. Daisy's Profile:.. Spayed.. 2 years.. 30-35 lbs.. About Daisy:.. Please note:.. Daisy is not yet in our care.. She is currently living in a remote area of Labrador bing cared for by someone who is working in the community.. She shoud be in St.. John's within two to three weeks.. Daisy needs a foster or adoptive home to which to go when she arrives.. If you are interested in fostering or adopting Daisy, please call us at.. or e-mai.. Daisy's caretaker says:.. I found Daisy curled up and shivering in the snow outside my house.. She was just a little ball of fluff and could fit in one hand.. I knew if I didn't take her in she would freeze to death.. Sadly, puppies often don't survive in this community.. I brought her in my house and fed her.. That was almost two years ago and she has been a very loving dog ever since.. She loves belly rubs and going for walks, hikes, and snowshoeing.. Basically, Daisy loves being outside.. She will come in to eat, nap, and sleep during the night.. She is house trained and will bark to go out or if she wants to come in.. d and this is something her new family would have to train her in.. Daisy loves the company of other dogs and would need to go to a family that already has a dog.. She is a very gentle dog and loves children.. She has had no experience with cats so I don't know how she would react.. If you are looking for a gentle, loving, and very pretty dog then give Daisy a chance.. if you would like to adopt Daisy.. Marcus is a sweet obedient dog that is very loyal.. He loves treats, walks, pats on the head, and a rub on the nose.. He gets along great with other dogs and knows how to sit and lie down when told to.. There is nothing he loves more than to just sit by your feet.. He is a little older so not super energetic but still loves going for walks and having a run around the backyard.. In the car, she will ALWAYS lie on the floor in the back.. we have tried to get her to sit on the seat BUT she will not.. She is quiet and will drool but she seems fine.. She goes with me in the car often and I have never had a problem with her.. Even on long drives.. We just added some new photos of Luke, and his.. Luke's Profile:.. 7 years (Born in 2005).. English Setter Mix.. Medium to large size (58 pounds).. Tan and White.. Good with other dogs, and with cats.. About Luke:.. Luke was adopted from Heavenly Creatures as a puppy, but due to a change in a family situation, he had to be returned us recently.. Luke's Foster Parents Say:.. Luke is the sweetest dog we've ever met.. He is full of energy for a dog his age, and full of love for anyone he comes in contact with.. He was clearly previously trained.. He is incredibly smart and picks up on things very quickly.. He has even been able to teach our Gordon Setter some patience.. It's very sad that Luke is searching for a home.. If we had the space available for two dogs permanently, we would be adopting him ourselves.. Luke deserves a home where he will get lots of affection, and exercise off the leash.. He loves running through the woods; his spirit shines through and can bring a smile to anyone's face.. He gets along great with our cat and our other dog and makes friends very easily.. One hike and you will fall in love with him like we did.. if you would like to adopt Luke.. Has lived outside his whole life.. This is what Bandit's current caretaker has to say about him.. Bandit's Story:.. I first met Bandit back in October.. I arrived home from work in the late afternoon and found him curled up on my step.. He was skinny, but happy.. Hopeful that he had an owner, I didn't feed him for a few days.. However, he never left my step so I started giving him scraps of food.. After a couple of weeks, the leftovers turned into dog food and doggy treats.. Bandit would then sit on the step and greet me after work with his doggy speak and wagging tail.. By December, when it got cold outside, he was spending time inside on the sofa.. He is a very very loving dog.. I am guessing he is about 2 years old based on his size and the fact that his teeth are in perfect condition.. He prefers to be outside, except at night when he comes in to sleep on the sofa.. Anyone taking Bandit needs to realize that he is a husky and therefore loves the outdoors.. He is not an apartment dog.. He has no problems sleeping the night away inside, but he can get quite naughty if left alone during the day (ie.. emptied garbage on the floor and chewed up shoes).. Ideally he should have an owner who has a backyard where he could spend the day.. He is house trained and will bark when he needs to go outside.. I have not had him on a leash yet so I don't know how he will react to being walked.. However, he generally aims to please so I am sure he'd get used to it.. He loves being patted, getting belly rubs, and being brushed.. If he is inside during the day with me, he follows me around everywhere.. He also loves the company of other dogs.. I don't think I'd trust him with cats as he likes to chase birds and small animals when I take him hiking or snowshoeing.. If you are looking for a beautiful, loving, loyal, active dog then Bandit is the dog for you.. if you would like to adopt Bandit.. If you would like to sponsor Bandit to help him on his road to a second chance, please click below, or visit our.. Buddy.. Updated March 24th, 2012.. Buddy's Profile:.. 7 years +.. Housetrained and kennel-trained.. Loves his walks; must be walked with a harness.. About Buddy:.. Buddy is an exceptionally sweet senior doggy who we rescued from a pound in 2011.. The pound told us that his owner was letting him roam, that he was costantly being picked up by Animal Control.. Sadly, the last time he was picked up, his owner didn't claim him.. HC stepped in, rather than see him needlessly euthanized.. Buddy is a small-medium size dog whose mix is anyone's guess.. We've heard different things suggested, such as Spaniel, Lab, and Border Collie.. Whatever he is, he's one lovable fellow.. Despite his greying face, he has energy to burn, and must go to a family where he will be regularly walked.. Buddy is looking for a loving person or family who will cherish him in his golden years.. He promises to love you back tenfold!.. Buddy's foster mom says:.. Buddy has been with me since November.. He gets along great with my other dogs.. I am not sure how he is with cats, but I do have two birds.. Buddy was fascinated with them at first, but with a few gentle corrections he has learned to ignore them, so I'm sure cats would be no problem either.. It was obvious when he first arrived here he hadn't spent any time in a home.. He had to learn quite a few rules, but now he is the perfect little gentleman.. Buddy loves to be brushed and cuddled, and he will follow you to the ends of the earth.. He walks great on a leash and he also enjoys off-leash walks.. Buddy is kennel trained and house trained.. Buddy has a couple of funny quirks.. He will give a little bark when he hears a siren like he is a little emergency alert dog (very cute) He is also a little camera shy making it hard to get a great pic.. You have to meet this little guy to appreciate him.. Buddy will be your absolute best friend and very loyal companion.. A Note From Buddy:.. It has been wonderful staying here with my three new doggy friends and the human who has been taking care of me.. I get to go for walks with friends and their human both on my leash and off; I don't mind the leash now because it is so fun being out and about.. My ears were so sore and itchy when I first came here and my teeth were not cared for at all.. Now my ears are all better, and the chew bones we all get have cleaned my teeth so nice!.. I try to show the human lots of affection and I try to keep her in sight at all times when we are home or out walking.. Though I don't get upset when she puts me in my kennel and leaves for work.. We wait patiently and, she always comes home.. I keep hearing the human say she wishes someone would give me a chance because I am such a sweet boy.. I know she doesn't mind caring for me, but I think she wants me to pay it forward and do for someone else what she has done for me.. She wants me to care about someone and give them love and make them feel like they matter.. if you would like to adopt Buddy.. If you would like to sponsor Buddy to help him on his road to a second chance, please click below, or visit our.. Dude (Lab cross puppy).. Update: February 21, 2012.. One of the male puppies is now available for adoption.. We are currently going through the adoption applications on file.. If you would like to be considered, please contact us.. Updated February 3rd, 2012.. As of this post, it appears that all of the puppies are spoken for.. If anything changes, we'll post another update again soon.. Posted January 28th, 2012.. These darling puppies are nine weeks old.. Their mother is approx.. 50-60 pounds, and appears to be a Lab/Border Collie cross.. As their mother was a stray, we have no idea what breed or mix their father is.. They currently weigh almost fifteen pounds, and are expected to grow to be medium to large size.. They will require a lot of time, love, patience, and exercise.. if you would like to adopt one of these beautiful babies.. • Title: Heavenly Creatures
Descriptive info: >.. Contrary to popular belief, animals don't always return home when they become hungry.. The sad truth is that every year in this province, thousands of pets become lost; many are never seen again (at least not alive).. Animals can be curious creatures, and sometimes curiosity can lead them far from home - too far to find their way back.. Some die from extreme temperatures, starvation, or injuries (or a combination of these); some are picked up by animal shelters and 'put to sleep' if no one arrives to claim or adopt them after a certain amount of time (usually 3 to 7 days).. What could be more heartbreaking than the thought of this happening to your animal friend? Animals euthanized at animal shelters are sometimes owned by people who think they should give Fluffy some time to find his own way home - this is a major mistake! Don't wait.. Most animals, if they are able, will return home within a few hours of leaving the house.. If your pet is overdue, we advise that you follow the directions below.. For a list of emergency numbers, please click here.. It is important to spay or neuter your pets!.. Many animals 'stray' because they are not spayed or neutered.. It is estimated that up to 70% of unneutered cats become lost at some point.. The instinct to mate is powerful - make sure it isn t also fatal to your pet.. Responsible pet owners ensure that spaying or neutering is a top priority when a pet joins the family.. LOST SHELTERS.. First, call the shelters in your area, and then call the ones that are farther away - animals have been known to travel long distances.. Be prepared to give a detailed description of your pet to the shelter worker who answers the phone.. VETERINARIANS.. Call all veterinary clinics in your locality: your pet may have been injured or killed and brought to any one of them.. Most vets keep a list of missing and found animals, so if your pet hasn't been brought in yet, be sure to leave a detailed description.. Note: Don't just call the vets in your immediate area - your pet may have wandered out of your area and been injured, or if someone hits  ...   that your pet might have become trapped in or under, such as greenhouses and sheds.. It is a wise idea to offer a reward for the safe return of your pet.. You should leave a flyer with all the shelters and veterinarians; they have bulletin boards and a high traffic-flow of animal lovers -one of them may have spotted your pet!.. ADVERTISING.. If you can afford it, take out ads in local newspapers and magazines.. Ads should contain the same information as the flyers.. Although there are no guarantees, following this advice will increase the chances of being reunited with your furry friend.. Note: If your pet comes home, remember to tell everyone whom you notified of the animal s disappearance and don t forget to take down those flyers!.. Do everything that is listed in the 'Lost' section.. As with people who have lost animals, we encourage people who have found animals (and we commend you for helping them!) to report them immediately.. Sometimes people think that because the animal they've found is dirty, timid or underweight he or she must have been abused by the owner and doesn't deserve to be returned.. However, the animal may very well just look that way because he or she has been lost for quite awhile; there is probably a family out there missing their pet terribly.. So, no matter what the condition of the animal, we urge you to call.. Sometimes people are reluctant to report an animal they've found to a city animal shelter or others that euthanize animals; they think that if they call, the shelter will come and pick up the animal and destroy him or her if the owners don t show up or a new home can t be found.. This isn't true: they won't pick up the animal unless you request it.. If you don t call, you're greatly reducing the chances that the animal will be reunited with his or her family.. The first thing most people do when their pet is missing is call the shelters.. If you can, please foster the animal until he or she is reunited with his or her owner or a new home is found, so that the shelters can save space for animals who really need it..

Descriptive info: Over the years we have had many animals come through and find new homes.. Here are a few of their stories.. Maggie (formerly Sweetie).. Adopted Fall of 2011.. Posted April 29th, 2012.. Maggie was an emergency rescue in September of 2011.. Her dad' took the time to write us this great update:.. Who names a dog Sweetie ? Honestly?.. We first heard of Sweetie s story on the Heavenly Creatures' website.. She had been apparently hit by a car and left to die on the side of the highway.. A passerby noticed her and called Humane Services.. He sat with her head in his lap in the early morning hours and waited for them to arrive.. Humane Services transferred Sweetie into Heavenly Creatures care, so that she could get the emergency veterinary care she needed.. It turned out that her spleen and womb (she had a bad case of Pyrometra - a womb infection) needed to be removed, and she had a giant abcess on her chest that needed to be drained.. We followed the story closely and donated to help pay for her surgery.. Several times we thought about volunteering to foster her, but already having three dogs, it seemed like a stretch.. But after seeing her on TV as she was recovering, we finally relented.. We fostered her for two days and knew we had to keep her.. All our friends and family think we are crazy to have four dogs, but they all love her.. Rechristened as Maggie (since everyone in our house was getting called sweetie to begin with, it got very confusing), she joined our family that includes two senior Labs named Elwood and Ben (who himself is an amazing Heavenly Creatures' success story), and a part Beagle, part Sheppard, part Cerebus named Abby (formally Peanut don t get me started), another Heavenly Creature from Natuashish, Labrador,.. that stole our hearts and then proceeded to eat our furniture).. Maggie was a little shy at first with us and the other dogs.. She was still walking with a slight limp from her surgery, and would routinely wake up in the middle of the night yelping in her sleep.. As if reliving in her dreams what had happened.. With time though, all that seems to have passed.. She is blending in nicely and loves playing with the other dogs, especially Abby.. She is well-mannered, has a terrific temperament, and takes treats more nicely than any dog I ve ever seen.. Traits which have all lead to her just passing the testing to become a Therapy Dog.. That said, she s still a dog and can be stubborn to get off the bed at the end of the night once she s comfortable, and she s never met an unattended trash can that she didn t like.. Minor annoyances from an otherwise fantastic dog.. I still would never name a dog Sweetie , but now I can understand why you would.. Gracie.. Adopted Spring of 2011.. Posted April 26th 2012.. Gracie, who was a pound rescue, was adopted from Heavenly Creatures in March of 2011.. Her family just sent us some updated photos, and this note:.. We adopted our new dog Gracie from Heavenly Creatures in the Spring of 2011 and it was one of the best decisions we ve ever made.. When we first saw her, she was in rough shape.. She had an injured dewclaw, her beautiful white coat was completely shaven to the skin, and she was underweight.. Even in her condition, she was calm and gentle.. We knew that, like all of the pets at heavenly creatures, she deserved a loving home and we were more than happy to provide it to her.. Gracie s hair grew back over the summer, she got surgery on her paw that fully healed and her weight.. We knew that, like all of the pets at heavenly creatures, she deserved a loving home and we were more.. than happy to provide it to her.. Gracie s hair grew back over the summer, she got surgery on her paw that fully healed and her weight returned to a healthy level.. In exchange for our love, Gracie has given us plenty of love and countless memories in return.. At first, Gracie didn t seem to care much for treats, she was afraid of driving in the car and she showed amazement  ...   a little update on a project that Heavenly Creatures undertook last year.. That project was saving my dog Maggie, and allowing her to recover from a horrific Snowp.. low Truck (Pick up Truck with Blade) accident.. It was February 4, 2011 when Maggie crossed the road after a snowmobile that was coming up across my land and at the same time a truck was travelling down the road.. Nough said!.. After three broken legs, a lacerated Patellar ligament, Pneumothorax of the lungs, and finally a urinary tract infection (all a result of the initial accident), I am happy to say she is doing quite well!.. She truly is the absolute toughest dog I have ever encountered.. She is a bit of a Robo Dog in that she has metal plates and screw in three of her legs.. She had a cast on her right hind leg for almost 10 weeks (lacerated ligament), and soon after that we started the process of gaining her use back in this leg.. Despite the poor weather of last summer, we had Maggie down swimming from May until October, and this really helped her strength and muscle development which was at virtually zero.. Today she still has the same spirit in trying to chase birds on our land and trying to sniff out the rabbits that live behind my house, but she just can't run quite as well.. We keep her active by walking her everyday and this really helps in keeping her pending arthritis to a minimum.. She truly has a will to live! This was only made possible due to the kindest efforts by the members of Heavenly Creatures and friends of the organization who raised almost $5000 toward her veterinary care!.. Maggie and I are anxiously awaiting for the water to warm up again so we can get her back in the water and continue with her rehabilitation.. Once again, thanks so much!.. Ryan and Maggie.. Adopted Winter of 2010.. Charlie took time out of his busy day to send us this lovely note:.. My name is Charlie and I was adopted from Heavenly Creatures almost a year ago.. I was a really good boy all year, but unfortunately my old family couldn t keep me and so I had to go live at a pound for a little while.. The other dogs there were really nice but what I really wanted was a home.. For Christmas I asked Santa for a new loving family and my wish came true! The great people at Heavenly Creatures rescued me and then introduced me to my new mom and dad and to my sister, Liddy.. My mom and dad love me so much, and I ve never gotten so many kisses and hugs in my life! My sister Liddy is the same age as me and she s my best friend in the whole world.. Since being adopted I enjoy a life full of walks, trips to the dog park, rides in the truck, yummy treats and unlimited belly rubs.. I ve got it made!.. Sometimes I act foolish just to make my family laugh.. and it always works! Mom and dad say that they couldn t have asked for a nicer, sweeter or more affectionate dog than me and that I light up their lives, and my sister never leaves my side.. so I think I ve made a good impression!.. So a big thank you to the great people at Heavenly Creatures who rescued me and gave me a family.. I wish that every animal in the world could be as lucky as me!.. Love,.. Hailey.. Posted January 11th, 2012.. Hailey's new mom says:.. Hi there,.. Just wanted to give you guys an update on Hailey, She has settled right in and is like a huge baby.. She loves to get up and get cuddles and snuggles from both August and I.. She is a very protective dog, especially over August ( my 3 yr old daughter).. She follows us every where including trying to get in the shower/bathtub with us.. Hailey loves to go out for walks and run around the back yard chasing a ball or Frisbee.. I just want to say thank you so much for Hailey, she is a treasure and will be loved forever, she is like a second child to me.. showing 1 to 5 of 134.. Next..

  • Title: Declawing Unacceptable: Assoc Vets for Animal Rights | Heavenly Creatures
Descriptive info: The lady with the 10 year old cat had it euthanized at the advice of her vet.. Apparently it was biting people and drawing blood (declawed, surprise!).. -reported by a Heavenly Creatures.. volunteer regarding a phone message.. October 15, 2007.. Declawing is not a "kitty manicure".. Declawing is an irreversible surgical procedure with life-long physical, behavioural and emotional consequences for your cat.. It involves the.. AMPUTATION.. of the last joint of your kitty's "toes".. The same toes that she depends on for balance, exercise, mobility and survival.. Unlike most mammals who walk on the soles of the paws or feet, cats are digitigrade, which means.. they walk on their toes.. Their back, shoulder, paw and leg joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments and nerves are naturally designed to support and distribute the cat's weight across its toes as it walks, runs and climbs.. A cat's claws are used for.. balance.. , for.. exercising.. , and for.. stretching the muscles.. in their legs, back, shoulders, and paws.. They stretch these muscles by digging their claws into a surface and pulling back against their own clawhold - similar to isometric exercising for humans.. This is the.. only way.. a cat can exercise, stretch and tone the muscles of its back and shoulders.. The toes help the foot meet the ground at a precise angle to keep the leg, shoulder and back muscles and joints in.. proper alignment.. Removal of the last digits of the toes.. drastically alters the conformation of their feet.. and causes the feet to meet the ground at an.. unnatural angle.. that can cause back pain similar to that in humans caused by wearing improper shoes.. PHYSICAL CONSEQUENCES.. It is painful.. not just after surgery but later in life when she is more apt to suffer from chronic back and joint pains.. Severed nerve endings.. may cause constant pain sensations in the toes.. Read more about the very real phenomenon of.. phantom pain.. Leads to.. atrophy of the muscles.. in the front quarters because the cat comes to rely on her hind quarters so much.. Secondary contracture of the tendons makes it more.. difficult for cat to walk.. Because cats rely so much on their claws for play and exercise, they are more likely to become.. overweight.. 5.. A poorly executed amputation procedure can result in.. painful regrowth of deformed nails.. 6.. Infection.. 7.. Death.. In a peer-reviewed veterinary journal, it was concluded that at least.. 50% of cats.. undergoing this amputation procedure had one or more complications after the surgery.. BEHAVIOURAL CONSEQUENCES.. Imagine kitty trying to dig in her litterbox after being declawed? OUCH!.. It is not uncommon for cats to urinate on softer surfaces after they have been declawed.. (like your favorite chair that you were initially trying to protect from her claws).. Once this behavior starts it is very difficult to get the cat to go back to the cold, boring litter box again.. Not only does she KNOW she cannot defend herself.. she actually can't.. Many cats become very defensive and/or aggressive.. They will retreat and hide just to avoid potential confrontation.. And most often bite!.. Cats have.. glands in their paws.. and they scratch to mark their territory.. Wouldn't it be great if she took up urinating everywhere else to mark her territory instead? Coincidentally, cats seem to choose the most visible areas of the house for scratching (or in this case urinating).. like your entrance way or living room.. If your declawed cat ever gets outside, she will not have her claws to help defend herself.. She won't even be able to escape harm by the very natural act of climbing a tree.. That's enough of a scenario to give anyone nightmares.. EMOTIONAL CONSEQUENCES.. Being out of balance is very.. stressful..  ...   you and depends upon you for protection.. Don't betray that trust by declawing your cat.. Declawing is not just inhumane but it is very selfish and lazy.. It does nothing positive for the animal.. Remember, contrary to misleading information, declawing is.. not.. a "minor" surgery comparable to spaying and neutering procedures.. It is.. ten, separate, painful amputations.. of the distal phalanx at the joint.. "Declawing.. is unacceptable because the suffering and disfigurement it causes is not offset by any benefits to the cat.. Declawing is done strictly to provide convenience for people.. The cat is treated as if he or she is an inanimate object who can be modified, even to the point of surgical mutilation, to suit a person's perception of what a cat should be.. It would seem more ethical and humane to accept that claws and scratching are inherent feline attributes, and to adjust one's life accordingly if a cat is desired as a companion.. If this is unacceptable, then.. perhaps a different companion would be in order.. The Association of.. Veterinarians for Animal Rights.. (www.. avar.. org).. Studies to support the claims of behaviour change:.. • "Among 218 cats relinquished to a shelter, more (52.. 4%) declawed cats than non-declawed cats (29.. 1%) were reported by owners to have.. inappropriate elimination problems.. Source: World Small Animal Veterinary Association - 2001.. Many declawed cats become so.. traumatized.. by this painful mutilation that they end up spending their maladjusted lives perched on top of doors and refrigerators, out of reach of real and imaginary predators against whom they no longer have any adequate defense.. A cat relies on its claws as its primary means of defense.. Removing the claws makes a cat feel.. defenseless.. The constant state of.. stress.. caused by a feeling of defenselessness may make some declawed cats more prone to disease.. Stress leads to a myriad of.. physical and psychological disorders.. including suppression of the immune system, cystitis and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).. "The consequences of declawing are often pathetic.. Changes in behavior can occur.. A declawed cat frequently resorts to biting when confronted with even minor threats.. Biting becomes an overcompensation for the insecurity of having no claws.. Bungled surgery can result in the regrowth of.. deformed claws.. or in an infection leading to.. gangrene.. Balance is affected.. by the inability to grasp with their claws.. Chronic physical ailments.. such as cystitis or skin disorders can be manifestations of a declawed cat's frustration and stress.. ".. David E.. Hammett, DVM.. The following is a partial list of countries in which.. declawing cats is either illegal or considered extremely inhumane.. and only performed under extreme medical circumstances:.. England.. Scotland.. Wales.. Northern Ireland.. Germany.. Austria.. Switzerland.. Norway.. Sweden.. Netherlands.. Denmark.. Finland.. Brazil.. Australia.. New Zealand.. 2 Responses to Declawing Unacceptable: Assoc Vets for Animal Rights.. Shawna.. on September 18, 2009.. wow! I actually thought getting my cat Declawed would fix everything.. I think I could live the rest of my cats life with scratched up furniture than live the rest of my life knowing all the pain I would have put him through:( I was honestly considering having my kitty declawed untill I read this.. I never knew any of the negative results and emotional damage that would have came out! I surely hope more people will read this and understand the consequences!.. Crystal3d.. on October 4, 2009.. I have a 15 year old cat that I had declawed, when he was young.. I now regret doing that.. I regret it because I also notice imbalance in walking; along with loss of confidence.. At the time I wish I would have known the consequences.. Vetenarians need to eduacate cat owners before doing the process.. That way cat owners will not learn years later..
