Creative Learning.. Summer Camp.. Youth Programs.. For any of you who just need a break! You can drop off your child or children here at the GMFRC every Monday from 1:15 - 3:15, Tuesday and Thursday from 8:45 - 11:45 am.. Preference will be given to families of deployed members on Thursday mornings.. We ask that your child/children are picked up on time to allow staff time to prepare for the next program.. This service includes quality childcare and the opportunity for your child to socialize and interact with other children their age.. To ensure this service we are requesting that you only book your child/children a week in advance due to limited spaces.. Local Day Care Centers.. Gander Pre-School and Day Care - 709-256-4466.. Philosophy - The Summer Camp is an active program, which promotes active and healthy living, as well as friendship, teamwork and a safe play environment.. Each session offers 60 hours of instruction based on the Canadian Forces French/English Curriculum (CFFC/CFEC) which has been adapted for military spouses.. Other interested individuals may inquire at the MFRC for applicable registration fees, but the cost differs and priority is given to military spouses.. The curriculum focuses on conversational skills, although there is a reading and writing component at each level.. Participants are offered a choice of daytime or evening classes and every attempt will be made to accommodate the student's preference.. The textbooks or curriculum will be provided to students free of charge and will be distributed once a level and classroom have been assigned.. Dictionaries and Bescherelles (verb books) may also be available on loan from the MFRC.. For more information or to register, please call the Second Language Training Coordinator at 256-3599 or drop-in to the MFRC.. * Please note, all registrants will be required to have an Oral Placement Test prior to beginning Second Language Training.. This test takes approximately 15 minutes and is conducted via telephone.. The results of the test will determine the current second language level of each participant and is used to assign students to the appropriate class.. The Gander MFRC promotes personal growth, skills development, and social/community engagement.. It is our goal to give our military community opportunities to share common experiences and to develop supportive relationships with others by offering various classes, workshops, training sessions and special events.. The GMFRC Social Worker can provide you with any of the following services:.. Short Term Counseling.. Workshop/Information Sessions.. Resource Library.. Confidentiality.. Short-term counseling sessions (anywhere from 1-5 meetings) are available.. These sessions are free of charge.. Individuals, couples and or families may contact my office by phone or in person to request a meeting.. • Common issues/areas of practice include:.. • Separation/divorce.. • Anxiety/depression.. • Grief/loss.. • Health/wellness.. • Stress/burnout.. • Personal development.. • Trauma issues.. • Parent/child issues.. Information and Referral is available to individuals and families who require additional or specialized services within the military and civilian communities.. Referrals are generally recommended for the following areas:.. • Long term counseling.. • Addictions Assessments.. • Child/adolescent therapy.. • Legal services.. • Financial counseling.. • Medical services.. • Mediation services.. • Support groups.. Workshops/Information sessions are offered on a variety of issues and topics of interest to individuals and families.. These include:.. • Parenting issues.. • Suicidal ideation.. •  ...   components to any counseling program.. It is very important to explore any confidentiality concerns/issues with the counselor.. There are four main exceptions to confidentiality including 1) potential harm to self (ie.. suicidal risk) 2) potential harm to others 3) child at risk 4) testimony in court (re: court order).. The services outlined above are available free of charge to military personnel, DND employees and their families.. If you would prefer to meet with me off base an appointment can be set up to accommodate same.. Home visits can also be scheduled if you would prefer that I meet with you in your home..
